Project Title: CHECKPOINT

Film maker and documentarist Aneel Ahmad was born and raised in Manchester, and is completely self-taught with no formal training or academic qualifications. His role models are the late Stanley Kubrick, Sir David Lean, Satyajit Ray and documentary filmmaker Peter Watkins.

Aneel is a firm believer in racial equality. He has written many papers on diversity and institutionalised racism hoping to highlight issues that Asian people face within the British media.

Aneel has been selected for high-level writing courses such as TAPS (BAFTA), The First Film Foundation, Raindance Script development, BBC's writers room new writers initiative and recently the Writers Gym M.A Writers course at the London Film School & French institute 2006. In 2003 Aneel made his first short film with North West Vision, "A Man's World", as part of the Lottery funded Virgin Shorts scheme. In 2004, he was selected by the UK Film Council Digital Shorts scheme and made his second film in association with North West Vision; the documentary "Waiting for Sunrise", which won the UNICEF Award in Sheffield in 2005. It was also short listed for the distinguished Grierson Awards for documentary.

Aneel has made his third film "Boot Polish" with North West Vision as part of the new Lottery-funded Digital Shorts Scheme. Shot in Lahore, Pakistan, it has just been selected by the British Council for Film & Arts to be screened worldwide in 2007. "Boot Polish" was selected for the Short Film Awards at the bfm International Film Festival 2007, and was a top 20 finalist for the prestigious Incircle Grant Schemes 2007.
