Matthias Drescher: Biography


Producer and screenwriter Matthias Drescher grew up in Halle and studied film production at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. As producer, he was responsible for the ProSieben TV series “Alles außer Sex” shot in 2006. He produced the film “Schuld sind immer die Anderen/Shifting the Blame” which was nominated for the Grimme Prize in 2014.

Matthias founded FFL Film- und Fernseh-Labor Ludwigsburg GmbH & Co. KG with Philipp Knauss in 2009. Based in Ludwigsburg, Film- und Fernseh-Labor specializes in the development of entertaining stories with rich characters and big emotions. FFL also produces fictional feature films and series. The team is comprised of four filmmakers, merging their professional experience and talent, and a large network of freelancers.

FFL has produced a literature adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Sandman (2012, ZDF Kultur, 45min), a drama Shifting the Blame (2012, SWR, 93min) and a comedy Schmidt's Nine Lives (2015, SWR, 90min). The Sandman and Shifting the Blame have received many national and international nominations and awards. Schmidt's Nine Lives was in German cinemas in 2015.

As well as live action, FFL has developed Animation projects including a trailer and concept for a series idea to the corresponding 2D Point-and-Click adventure game The Inner World. The company’s most ambitious project so far is The Journey of the Elephant Soliman, a family entertainment movie aimed at children and families. Matthias is the co-writer, along with Juliette Alfonsi. The project has won the 2017 German Animation Screenplay Award, and was nominated for the 2017 MFG-Thomas Strittmatter Award. FFL has teamed up with a German, a Belgian and an Austrian animation company, who are all well established in the production of feature quality 3D. The script and design have so far attracted much attention, and German as well as European film funding has been granted, with strong German and international distributors on board.

Matthias is the producer and originating co-writer of “DieWäscherin/The Laundress” with Juliette Alfonsi, and FFL is developing the feature screenplay with Barbara Antičević.
