Programme 2009

BABYLON is a feature film development initiative and cultural forum, produced by Scenario Films (UK) in co-production with Ciné-Sud Promotion (France), Mira Media (Holland) and ScriptHouse (Germany). It is aimed at Europe's minority filmmakers and mixed creative teams seeking to broaden their international reach by working creatively together in a European context.

BABYLON 2009 builds on the last two years' successful Feature Film Development programme which will now include a new outreach phase of Regional Workshops as well as ongoing events throughout the year.

The European Programme consists of:

A 4-day project development workshop in Rotterdam 26-29 January 2009

  • round-table pitching of selected projects (multi-lingual, with interpretation)
  • screening of extracts from participants' previously filmed work
  • whole day script analysis in selected language groups with professional consultants
  • whole day one-to-one project meetings with industry consultants
  • lunchtime guest speakers from the international film industry
  • industry networking reception and other events
  • 3 nights free accommodation

As well as intensive advice and analysis from experienced industry consultants, the BABYLON workshops offer creative exchange, networking, co-production and distribution opportunities.

Online and telephone consultation with Babylon mentors is available during the rewrite phase, February to April 2009.

Projects are re-assessed and the most promising selected for the second phase:

A 5-day industry workshop in Cannes 14-19 May 2009

  • advice with finance plan and co-production options
  • orientation tour of the Cannes Market
  • assisted accreditation with market and festival
  • 4 nights' free accommodation
  • daily seminar programme with industry guests
  • ongoing project consultation
  • personal mentoring and introductions
  • public discussion with industry professionals
